The plague dogs novel5/13/2023 Snitter, a fox terrier who had been a good man's pet until a horrible traffic accident, can't understand where all the houses and roads and men are. The two dogs make their way through the animal experimentation building till they are able to escape into the Lake District fells and thence away. While humans can't see it, he has now a gift of the Sight without fully understanding how or why. And Snitter has undergone brain surgery to test who knows what. When he is revived, he returns to his pen where his neighbor, Snitter, is finding a possible way out. This is an experiment that documents how long he is able to maintain consciousness in a large metal tank full of water, until he finally sinks from exhaustion. The book begins with the larger of the two dogs, a large black Lab mix named Rowf, almost ready to finish his time in the tank. **Trigger Warning - animal experimentation** It is about humanity, and the bond between domesticated dogs and humanity, and thoughtlessness and politics, and really just everything. What do I begin with reviewing this book? It is more than just a book about two dogs who escape their cages in an animal research facility.

Consequently, the geographical vagueness of “the Orient” works to conflate a vast and diverse array of landscapes, peoples and cultures into a single, unchanging unit. Orientalists might write about countries as varied as Lebanon, Turkey and Iraq with little distinction. Indeed, the Orient doesn’t have a stable set of geographical bounds. While the term has been used to describe countries in East and South Asia, Said mainly focuses on how it’s used in relation to Southwest Asia and North Africa, or the Middle East. Barenboim-Said Foundation (USA) What is “the Orient”?Īccording to Said, the Orient is a “semi-mythical construct” imposed on a set of countries east of Europe. Edward Said shows how Orientalist writings and ideologies perpetuate views of Middle Eastern people as inferior, subservient, and in need of saving.

Lumiere by Jacqueline Garlick5/11/2023 In my former life, I was a teacher (both grade school and college-don't ask), but more recently I've been a graduate of Ellen Hopkin's Nevada Mentor Program and a student of James Scott Bell, Christopher Vogler and Don Maass. Because of this, I am often referred to as the Quentin Tarantino of YA among writing friends. My writing style has been described as edgy and rule-breaking, and by some-a touch Tim Burton-esque. You will always find a purple wall (or two) in my house (currently in my writing room), and there may or may not be a hidden passageway that leads to a mystery room. (Okay, so you won't find a hidden passageway, but a girl can dream, can't she?) Oh, and tea. I prefer creating things to cleaning things, and believe laughter is a one-stop-shop solution to all that ails you. I have a love/hate relationship with chocolate, grammar, and technology and would rather hang out with a dog, than a cat. I love to read, write, paint (walls and paper). I love strong heroines, despise whiny sidekicks, and adore a good story about a triumphant underdog. I'm Jacqueline Garlick, author of young adult and new adult fiction.
